Itraconazole Used For Fungal Infection
Itraconazole is used to treat yeast infections of the mouth and throat or of the esophagus (tube that connects the throat to the stomach). Itraconazole is in a class of antifungals called triazoles. It works by slowing the growth of fungi that cause infection.

Indication
It is used for infections caused by fungi or yeasts such as vaginal infections, dermatological infections, onychomycosis etc.
When not to Use
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to itraconazole or to any of the excipients.

Precaution
When driving vehicles and operating machinery the possibility of adverse reactions such as dizziness, visual disturbances and hearing loss , which may occur in some instances, must be taken into account.
Itrazox Capsules Warnings
Warning 1
Itraconazole has been shown to have a negative inotropic effect and it has been associated with reports of CHF.
Warning 2
There is limited information regarding cross-hypersensitivity between itraconazole and other azole antifungal agents. Caution should be used in prescribing itraconazole capsules to patients with hypersensitivity to other azoles.
Warning 3
The use of capsules in pediatric patients is not recommended unless it is determined that the potential benefit outweighs the potential risks.

Itraconazole is used to treat serious fungal or yeast infections. Itraconazole oral solution is only used to treat oropharyngeal or esophageal candidiasis (thrush, oral thrush). Itraconazole capsule is used to treat fungal infections, such as aspergillosis (fungal infection in the lungs), blastomycosis (Gilchrist’s disease), or histoplasmosis (Darling’s disease). Sporanox® capsule is also used to treat onychomycosis (fungal infection in the fingernails or toenails). Itraconazole tablet is only used to treat onychomycosis of the toenails. This medicine works by killing the fungus or yeast and preventing its growth.

Pediatric
Appropriate studies on the relationship of age to the effects of itraconazole have not been performed in the pediatric population. Safety and efficacy have not been established.
Geriatric
Appropriate studies performed to date have not demonstrated geriatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of itraconazole in the elderly. However, elderly patients are more likely to have temporary or permanent hearing loss or age-related kidney, liver, or heart problems, which may require caution and an adjustment in the dose for patients receiving itraconazole.
Breastfeeding
There are no adequate studies in women for determining infant risk when using this medication during breastfeeding. Weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks before taking this medication while breastfeeding.
